Michael Moore has titled his upcoming documentary Capitalism: A Love Story, which addresses the causes of the global economic meltdown, reports Variety.

"It will be the perfect date movie," Moore said in an announcement Wednesday. "It's got it all -- lust, passion, romance and 14,000 jobs being eliminated every day. It's a forbidden love, one that dare not speak its name. Heck, let's just say it: It's capitalism."

The film is described as focusing on "the disastrous impact that corporate dominance and out-of-control profit motives have on the lives of Americans and citizens of the world."

Moore has made three of the top six highest-grossing documentaries -- Fahrenheit 9/11, Sicko and Bowling for Columbine.

Variety reports that Warner Bros. and DC Comics have won a favorable ruling in the suit filed by the heirs of "Superman" co-creator Jerome Siegel. Here are some excerpts from the ruling:

In a decision announced Wednesday, U.S. Judge District Court Judge Stephen G. Larson found that the license fees the studio paid to corporate sibling DC Comics didn't represent "sweetheart" deals as they weren't below fair market value. That means the heirs will be able seek profits only from DC Comics -- which earned $13.6 million from Warner Bros. for the 2006 release of "Superman Returns" -- rather than from Warner Bros. as well.

The judge, who conducted a 10-day bench trial, also noted that Warner Bros. chairman Alan Horn had testified that he hopes to make another "Superman" movie but added that the property wasn't under development at the studio, that no script had been written and that the earliest another "Superman" pic could be released would be in 2012.

Toberoff also asserted in a written statement that the Siegel heirs and the heirs of co-creator Joe Shuster will own the entire Superman copyright in 2013.

"The Court pointedly ruled that if Warner Bros. does not start production on another Superman film by 2011, the Siegels will be able to sue to recover their damages," Toberoff added.

Summary:
Even more insane and hysterical than "Borat," Sacha Baron Cohen's hilarious follow-up is also far more coherent and effective at using shock factor to get you laughing.

Story:
19-year-old Austrian supermodel Brüno (Sacha Baron Cohen) has been fired from hosting his talk show after a runway incident, so he travels to Hollywood with his trusty assistant Lutz (Gustaf Hammarstein) in hopes of becoming a celebrity.

Analysis:
As one of the few people none-too-thrilled by Sacha Baron Cohen's weak attempt at using humor in "Borat" to comment on misogyny and anti-Semitism not only in Eastern European stereotypes but in Americans as well, I was skeptical that Cohen could convince me there was more to his gay Austrian supermodel Brüno that would warrant a feature-length film. After all, we've seen far too many times how characters created for TV skits (which is essentially Cohen's forte) rarely work in a longer form. Wisely, I had familiarized myself more with Cohen's gay supermodel character from that earlier experience, so I was familiar with his schtick and how he uses it to expose homophobia in the most banal places.

Cohen has clearly had more time to develop Brüno and figure out the best way to use him in a story that encompasses a variety of different in-character pranks, and fortunately, a lot of them involve more than the character just acting dumb due to unfamiliarity with U.S. customs and traditions. This movie follows Brüno's journey to Hollywood, accompanied by his adoring assistant Lutz, in hopes of starting fresh and becoming a celebrity.

To some, it might seem obvious why this movie would have GLADD up in arms once they realized the straight British comic would be playing a flamboyantly gay character for an entire film, presumably solidifying negative stereotypes within his mostly straight male audience. In fact, Cohen is once again using an exaggerated caricature as a way to get the people he meets and interviews to let down their guard and show there's a lot of homophobia in play in our country. (Not that anyone needs be reminded of this based on the inability for our government to agree on supporting those with alternate lifestyles.)

But the movie isn't just about Brüno's sexuality, and the "gay stuff" doesn't really come into play until about halfway through the movie. Up until that point, it's more about outing stupid people in the industry who don't understand that they shouldn't say ridiculously dumb and offensive things while on camera. In an early segment, Brüno convinces Paula Abdul to talk about her humanitarian work while sitting on the human furniture courtesy of his Mexican gardeners. (The bit that followed with LaToya Jackson has been cut from the final version.) In another bit, he convinces stage parents to allow their young babies to be shot doing unspeakable things, all for the sake of "show biz." You might almost be embarrassed laughing at how these parents don't even hesitate before agreeing. Brüno's own attempts at adopting a black baby doesn't go well. While it's always fun to watch Cohen put celebrities and political figures on the hot seat, the best bits are when he's out in public, deliberately making a fool of himself in order to get a reaction from whomever he can. There does seem to be a little bit of staged fakery to help wrap some of those scenes up, but no more or less than in "Borat."

Over the last few months, you've probably heard about some of Brüno's exploits from various news outlets, but you may be surprised how some of them are used within the context of the story, especially the final prank where Cohen fights another man in a steel cage, only for them to start ripping off their clothes and making out, something that doesn't go over well with the mostly male Arkansas audience. There's quite a bit of male frontal nudity and a number of outrageous sex scenes, the latter mostly done to amuse, although you'll probably be thankful a lot of the most graphic portions have been blurred out. The only real weak moment compared to the rest of the movie is the "We Are the World" number that closes the movie complete with all of the usual suspects (Sting, Bono, Elton John) lending their voices. It just doesn't seem as clever or original as some of Cohen's other ideas.

The plot itself isn't exactly "War and Peace," essentially leading to Cohen's character having an altercation with his travel partner and it culminating in a number of equally hilarious situations. After he splits with Lutz, Brüno decides that the only way for him to become famous is by being straight, so he goes to a series of Christian "converters" who seem nonplussed by the challenge of turning Brüno straight. This is where the film starts to really take off as Cohen starts playing with how far he can take the stereotype, whether it's mouthing off at an army boot camp, attending a swingers' party where he convinces a straight man to show him some sex moves, and he even takes part in a martial arts demonstration where he gets a straight-laced instructor to show him the defensive arts against a variety of dildos. It's all very funny stuff, because you're in on the joke while everyone else tries their best to take his character seriously despite his insane actions and requests.

Third time is the charm for director Larry Charles who finds clever and inventive ways to tie all the vignettes together using music and sound FX, making this a much funnier film than both "Borat" and "Religulous." It doesn't hurt that there's a far more coherent story in play to keep everything glued together, and that Cohen has figured the best way of building a joke over the course of each bit rather than constantly regurgitating the same jokes. Who knows if Cohen went to such great lengths to stay in character for this jaunt as he did while playing Borat, but one has to be impressed with the flawless German, which he speaks through most of the film. (On the other hand, his constant replacement of words like "Ass" with "Auschwitz" does get somewhat tiring.)

Someday, someone will take time to analyze what Cohen does to see why it's so effective at amusing some while at the same time offending others. With "Borat," I made the mistake of assuming Cohen was just an Andy Kaufman or Yakov Smirnoff wannabe, but there's a lot more deliberate thought being put into what he does, making him the thinking man's comedian who doesn't necessarily require a lot of thinking.

The Bottom Line:
The bottom line for any comedy is whether it makes you laugh, and this one had me laughing loudly and almost in tears many times at some of the most insane things I've seen on screen. That's what I'd consider a success. If you're comfortable with your sexuality and not too sensitive about humor done deliberately to shock and offend, you'll be laughing, too.

Summary:
Another accomplished installment in the popular fantasy franchise, though it's hard not to feel like this is little more than an interim piece in the overall story, presumably leading to something much bigger next time around. Or at least let's hope so.

Story:
In his sixth year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe) and his friends Ron and Hermione (Rupert Grint, Emma Watson) must contend with the continued threat of Voldemort's Death Eaters, while Professor Dumbledore (Michael Gambon) has brought back the school's old teacher, Professor Horace Slughorn (Jim Broadbent), for reasons only he knows. After his father has been caught and jailed, Harry's arch-nemesis Draco Malfoy (Tom Felton) is even more determined to take down his enemy, but Harry, Ron and Hermione seem more concerned with their sudden interest in the opposite sex.

Analysis:
It probably needs to be said as a caveat to this review that "Half-Blood Prince" is the first one of Rowling's novels that I didn't get a chance to read before seeing the movie. That really shouldn't matter, since one presumes that a good portion of the millions who regularly go see these movies won't necessarily have read the books either. It's also obvious from the last movie that the films continue to diverge further and further away from Rowling's novels, but rest assured that if you haven't read the sixth book, this review deliberately omits important plot points as to not spoil the experience.

After a fantastic opening scene in modern-day London of the Death Eaters attacking the Muggle populace, we see Harry enjoying his summer break until Professor Dumbledore shows up to take him back to the safety of Hogwarts. First, they must convince Dumbeldore's former colleague, Jim Broadbent's Professor Horace Slughorn, to return to Hogwarts for reasons Dumbeldore won't reveal. In the meantime, the Death Eaters have been trying to get at Harry--the only person to have survived an attack by their master Voldermort--and everyone at Hogwarts tries to get back to business as normal. Dumbledore asks Harry to become Slughorn's star potions pupil in order to get answers that might help them find Voldemort, while Harry's nemesis Draco Malfoy has been recruited for his own mission by the Death Eaters. Harry has found a special potion book belonging to someone known as the "half-blood prince," and there's a subplot involving something called Liquid Luck. If you're already lost then welcome to the world of J.K. Rowling's over-elaborate plotting and how hard it is to retain all of it when making a film adaptation.

David Yates becomes only the second filmmaker to make two "Harry Potter" movies back-to-back, with this sixth installment also bringing original screenwriter Steve Kloves back to the fold. At this point, if you haven't been religiously watching the movies based on Rowling's tomes, you might as well give up. As much as "Half-Blood Prince" tries to retain the done-in-one aspect of the previous movies, there are just way too many characters from the previous chapters making brief appearances you're not likely to know who anyone is. Instead, the focus is on the evolving relationships between the characters, something that's important to all good filmmaking ventures, but not when it bogs down the forward movement of the story, which is clearly the case here.

The young female members of the cast clearly steal the sixth film, especially Emma Watson's Hermione, whose acting has been consistent and solid throughout the series. By comparison, Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint don't seem to have improved very much, although at least Grint is getting away from the Stan Laurel routine he was doing so much in previous movies. There's no explanation for Harry's sudden change in demeanor since the last movie in which he was angry all the time; here, he's quite placid once again despite everything that happened. If someone told me eight years ago that Bonnie Wright, introduced as Ginny Weasley in the first movie, would turn into such a strong dramatic actress who could carry scenes as well as the three leads, I wouldn't have believed it. It's a testament to producer David Heyman and the various directors who've helmed the franchise that these young actors have been able to evolve and develop their characters so much. This movie would have failed miserably if that wasn't the case.

The verbal sparring between Ron and Hermione has played such a large part in the last few movies, and if you didn't realize where their relationship was heading then you've clearly never seen an episode of "Moonlighting." Hermione is finally realizing she has stronger feelings for Ron, who is as oblivious about them as ever, but the movie spends way too much time dealing with this relationship and how others get in the way. As entertaining as all the character interaction continues to be, so much time is spent dealing with the mostly inconsequential romantic relationships of the various characters that it completely overpowers the main plot. Sadly, it feels that the movie is trying too hard to retain the straying young women who have become enamored by the "Twilight" series, rather than remaining true to itself.

As much as the focus remains on the younger cast, this installment is clearly Michael Gambon's moment to shine as Professor Dumbledore after spending a good portion of the last movie in the wings. For the actor to follow the likes of the legendary Richard Harris in the role and make it his own character is quite an achievement. Similarly, Jim Broadbent does a great job filling in as this installment's "special guest," a doddering sycophant who has his own plans for Harry. (Alan Rickman's Severus Snape continues to play an equally large part in Harry's life at Hogwarts, although we can't say much about his role in the movie without spoiling it.) Over the course of the five previous movies, so many characters have been introduced and there's very little for many of them to do in this one, yet many of them make brief appearances in inconsequential scenes that are similarly unnecessary in the overall scheme of things.

Noticeably missing from this chapter is Ralph Fiennes' Voldemort, who played such a large role in elevating the level of menace in the last few movies. We do get to see the former Tom Riddle in his younger guise--one even played by Fiennes' nephew--but the main menace this time is his Death Eaters, who only really appear at the beginning, the end and a few scattered bits in between. For the most part, this chapter seems to be lacking in the epic magical fantasy that was such an important part of the series up until now - there really aren't any magical creatures for instance, and a lot of what happens could just as well have taken place in any episode of "Saved by the Bell," as the film strays from the fact that the story takes place in a school for wizards.

While Rupert Grint has previously been the film's primary comic relief, that honor goes to the duo of Evanna Lynch's Luna Lovegood and Jessie Cave's Lavender Brown--the latter is Ron's ditzy love interest--both of them keeping things light and fun throughout. Another pleasant surprise is the amazing transformation of Tom Felton's Malfoy from a sniveling and unlikable bully into a villain with real potential. Most of the film, we watch him putting things into a cabinet that makes them disappear, for reasons we don't discover for a long time.

By the time we get back to the actual plot, almost two hours have passed, and by then, you might have completely given up on caring who the titular "half-blood prince" is. That makes it the first time in the series you really start feeling the movie's length before the two-hour mark due to the amount of needless filler.

That's not to say Yates doesn't continue to prove himself an accomplished filmmaker, doing a fantastic job with what is evidently the weakest chapter in the series since its debut. He has created another fantastic looking film with a distinct look from its predecessors thanks to the gorgeous cinematography of Bruno Delbanel ("Amelie") while Nicholas Hooper's score continues to make one forget all about John Williams. The quality of their work is most evident in the last twenty minutes, when we finally get the exciting, fantastical climax we've been hoping for, but it takes way too long to get there. To be honest, other than the opening, a brief Quidditch match and the quest by Harry and Dumbeldore's quest to find an important artifact, there's nothing in the sixth movie that necessarily needs to be seen on the larger IMAX screen.

We won't divulge the two or three big revelations, though they're not nearly as groundbreaking as one might hope after having waited eight extra months for a movie that resolves little and doesn't really deliver on many things set-up in the previous movie. Instead, we're left once again with what is essentially a cliffhanger for the next movie, which one can only hope will return to the vast scope of the previous movies.

The Bottom Line:
If you're a diehard fan of the series and the way the characters have evolved over the previous five films, there's a lot of relationship stuff to enjoy in the sixth installment, but it's hard to forgive the most obvious problems with "Half-Blood Prince" in terms of its pacing, tone and storytelling, as well as the fact that it's deliberately drifting away from what made the previous movies work so well.

In exploring a lighthouse one day, the girl discovers a room with magic candles and wishes to be reunited with her father, causing the island of Manhattan to break away and drift across the Pond.

No deals are made for either Lawrence or Smith. Lawrence is simultaneously developing Water for Elephants at Fox 2000 as well as The World Without Us, also at Fox.

Singers Neeraj Sridhar, Master Saleem and Suzanne set the perfect mood of the song with their youthful voice. The remixed version of the song is sure to heat up the dance floor.The second track opens with a light hearted song ‘Chor Bazari’ by Neeraj Sridhar and Sunidhi Chauhan. It’s a peppy number and full of fun. Set in the backdrop of Delhi Chor Bazar, the song gives you a unique feel of the city. Lyric is very simple and Neeraj and Sunidhi have done full justice to the song. It’s a foot tapping number and purely funny, quite impressive. The remix track of the song sounds average not able to impress like the original.The third track ‘Yeh Dooriyan’ touches the chord of our heart on first hearing. It gives the similar feeling like ‘Tum Se Hi’ from ‘Jab We Met’. As well assessed from the wordings, it speaks about distance and separation of the two hearts. Very impressive and sends a feeling of love, pain and separation. Well written and well sang by singer who is known for his romantic best Mohit Chauhan. After hearing, it will entice you to croon again and again as it has a gentle breeze of love.The fourth track, ‘Ajj Din Chadheya’ by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan comes as a gentle breeze. Very peaceful and immediately connects to the soul. Lyric by Irshad is equally captivating. Purely Indian, the song starts with a small alaap. Its runs very smoothly and stays longer with us. You will fall in love with first hearing. The album continues to rule. The fifth track goes as 'Thoda Thoda Pyar'. It’s a marriage song in the voice of Sunidhi Chauhan. It has a feel of 60’s and 70’s shaddi song. It has perfectly created the mood of a Punjabi marriage house with their unique tune and words. Total foot tapping number and the instruments of dholak and tabla were much prominent. Nothing special but sounds like any other marriage song. Here the album scores little low.KK makes his presence felt with the sixth track of the film 'Main Kya Hoon'. It is a peppy number, very fast and full of energy. The next track that follows is ‘Twist’ by Neeraj Sridhar. It is a foot-tapping number with loads of beats and rhythm. Average to hear.‘Love Aaj Kal’ is an album worthy buying and listening. Scores really high and includes all the ingredients to hit the chartbuster. ‘Aahun Aahun’, ‘Ajj Din Chadheya’ and Yeh Dooriyan are the gems of the album.

Her story titled, Osama – A Love Story.Suchita said, “I wrote to Aditya Chopra in August 2006 regarding two stories I had. He asked director Arjun Sablok to get in touch with me. DNA test confirms rape charges in Shiney Ahuja case

Bollywood News : The DNA report of Bollywood actor Shiney Ahuja, arrested for alleged rape of his domestic maid, on Monday has confirmed that the victim had been raped, police said.
"The DNA report has confirmed rape of the victim," said Additional Police Commissioner Amitabh Gupta.
"The report has corroborated the allegations in the FIR that the actor had raped his domestic help," Gupta added.
The blood and urine samples also suggested that the actor was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs when he allegedly committed the crime.
The actor is lodged in Arthur Road jail after a court remanded him to judicial custody for raping the 20-year-old maid at his residence on June 14. He was arrested the next day.
The medical examination of the victim, who hails from Roha in Raigad district, had shown injuries on her private parts.
The medical report of Bollywood Actor Shiney Ahuja had also shown an abrasion on his hand. The victim is just 38 kg while Ahuja is 76 kg. Since Ahuja is double the weight of the victim, he might have easily overpowered and raped her, a police official said.
Also, nail samples of the victim have been sent for forensic tests to gather corroborative evidence in the case, police said adding that the report is still awaited.

Ramesh is teaching Aishwarya the basics of Karate for now. In the movie Aishwarya Rai and the other girls in the film will be learning Karate from her hero. Rajnikant is already trained in Karate so he will not have to train himself. Some interesting scenes were shot recently in the VIT University in Chennai." Aishwarya Rai has always been a quick learner. Even during the making of the The Last Legion Aishwary Rai had trained herself in the sword fight. Both critics and the audience are full of praise for John Abraham’s superb act as a Muslim character who takes to terrorism in Kabir Khan’s just released New York. But not many are aware of the preparations John underwent for bringing authenticity to his character.
Our unit source reveals, “To play the Muslim character, Kabir Khan made him read the holy Quran thoroughly so that his dialogues, mannerisms and reactions in the film rang true. John too gladly did as he was ordered. He was excited to play the character which was definitely amongst the most difficult parts of his career. And now the result is out there for everyone to see.”
Despite their Kabul Express having not worked at the box office, Kabir Khan wanted to repeat John in his New York and had in fact told producer Aditya Chopra so that he could only think of John to play the main lead. We won’t be surprised now if John bags a few awards for his act in the film.

Few Mumbai tabloids had claimed that the affair between Priyanka Chopra and Shahid Kapur had gone kaput. However, the couple has been spotted at various spots of the city after that.
Sources inform that just after the story of their recent split was out, Priyanka and Shahid were seen having cosy lunch at a restaurant very close to their residence in Versova, Mumbai. In fact Priyanka Chopra’s brother was also seen accompanying them. Later the same night the two of them were spotted having dinner at China House.
Another source further reveals that the two of them are very much together. The stories of their split up are base less. They have been seen together seen having dinner together often. Their relationship began during the shooting of their film Kaminey. Shahid saved her face from being injured when they both slipped and fell from a scooter. Shahid had extended his hand and buffered her face before the fall.
According to Priyanka’s friends, it was like a Mills and Boon romance for Priyanka. Soon the two neighbors, who live in the same building, became close friends. Their friendship turned to love only a few months ago.

Shahrukh Khan Shahrukh Khan is set to add another feather to his already studded cap with an honorary doctorate from a prestigious university in London.

The Bollywood superstar has been chosen to receive an honorary doctorate in arts and culture from Britain's University of Bedfordshire.

The actor was nominated for the honour by ‘Routes to Roots’, a non-profit charitable organisation that aims to bring people and cultures together across the countries of South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (Saarc).



Expressing his gratitude at receiving the honour, SRK said in a statement: “I am delighted that Routes to Roots nominated me for the honorary doctorate in arts and culture from the Bedfordshire University UK and it will be my pleasure to receive it personally on 10th July in London.”

According to a co-founder of ‘Routes To Roots’, Shahrukh was chosen for the doctorate because he “has done immense work for the underprivileged and downtrodden and has always come forward for charities in case of natural disasters.”

Tinsel tattle has it that Fardeen Khan got into a fight with sister Laila’s boyfriend at a late night get-together of family members.

The incident happened at the bar of a five star hotel in Andheri East where Fardeen, his wife Natasha, sister Laila, her boyfriend Farhan Furniturewala, Farah Ali Khan and DJ Aqeel were partying together.

Reports say Fardeen, who isn’t very fond of his sister’s beau, got into an argument with Farhan and in a matter of minutes the argument turned into a heated squabble. In fact, tempers flared and the two came to blows.



Explaining to a tabloid, Fardeen denied getting into a fight and said he and Farhan were discussing about their favourite WWF wrestlers and decided to show each other some of their wrestling moves.

Fardeen’s explanation, however, could be a clever way to cover up what actually happened.

Farhan, too, says it was a petty argument, but he does admit that Fardeen over-reacted a bit.

Fardeen has been going through tough time since the death of his father Feroz Khan .

Adhyayan as Akash Verma
Akash is a struggling musician who lives on his singular dream of stardom. Supporting him in his quest for fame and success are three band members. An orphan, Akash is supported (financially) by his sister, who bears the ignominy of being mistress to a very wealthy and powerful man.

Anjana Sukhani as Sara

Full of spunk, Sara wears a don't-care attitude on her sleeve and easily makes Akash fall in love with her. But before you can dismiss her as a frivolous eye candy, Sara takes in the screen by storm, supporting Akash through his struggles, keeping his faith alive himself amid all hopelessness.

Shahana Goswami as Nisha

Synopsis

Akash Verma (Adhyayan), a twenty-year-old Indian lad, thirsts to become a singing icon that can blaze a trail for him among the galaxy of existing stars. But though he has dreams in his heart, he has been unable to find that distinctive voice that he can call his own, that will propel him to the top. Katrina Kaif A dumb girl who has trouble controlling her emotions, she is hysterical and others find her over-blown problems funny. So much for this young actress, but don’t get shocked. This is only Katrina’s character sketch in one of her forthcoming movies.

Katrina Kaif portrays a young, clueless catholic girl who is from Mumbai. She gets too emotional at times, suffers from hysteria, gives herself too much importance and all her problems seem big to her while others simply laugh at it. In a nutshell, she plays a stupid, superficial character in the comedy Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani , where she is paired opposite Ranbir Kapoor .

Well, director Rajkumar Santoshi has put her to the ultimate litmus test as it wasn’t easy for Katrina to act like a silly, dumb person who is capable of evoking laughter. Though Katrina’s career graph shows many hit comedies, the actress still has to prove that she’s got a few funny bones in her hot bod.




And since comedy is a serious business, Kat did have her share of troubles while enacting the character. But Santoshi drew examples from his yesteryear superhit, ‘Andaz Apna Apna’, and taught her comic acts that even involved rolling her eyes.

On the contrary, Ranbir who has acting in his blood, working in ‘Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani’ was a smooth sail. He plays a boy with a good heart but clumsy actions. He stumbles, he staggers and that makes him humorous. As reported, his character is “a satirical synthesis of Raj Kapoor’s ‘Awara’ and Charlie Chaplin’s ‘City Lights’.”

Now after working with both Katrina and Ranbir, Rajkumar Santoshi is eager to work with them again and this time he plans a serious flick.

So Ekta asked herself and her friends why on earth she must stay alone when neither she nor parents wanted it.” Now happily back with her parents and in her old room where was born and grew up, Ekta is in a happier and more peaceful state of mind that she has been in recent times. Says the source, “Ekta is back to being Mama’s and Papa’s girl. And that’s the way she has always wanted it to be. Now the home she built for herself is locked away. She now follows all the curfew rules at home. She’s allowed to party. But she isn’t allowed to have meetings in her office after a certain time each day. Her father has asked her to have all her late-night meetings at home. So Ekta dutifully drives back home from wherever she is to have her meetings. And just this once Ekta is happy being bullied.”

New York Movie ReviewMovie Review: New York; Star Cast: John Abraham, Katrina Kaif, Neil Nitin Mukesh and Irrfan Khan; Director: Kabir Khan; Rating: ***1/2 - Is a must watch.

Omar (Neil) is picked up by the FBI and detained for arms found in his owned taxi. Basically it’s a well planned set up by FBI officer Roshan (Irrfan) and his boss to get Omar agreeing on to work as an undercover agent for them and infiltrate the family the life of Samir (John) and Maya (Katrina) who were Omar’s college friends 7-8 years back. Roshan suspects Samir of running a sleeper terrorism cell and he wants to nab him red handed. Omar is left with no option but to comply with Roshan’s orders but he agrees on one condition that the FBI won’t kill Samir if he agrees to surrender. Years back when in college Omar, Maya and Samir were thick buddies and Omar silently loved Maya but when she expressed her love for Samir, Omar had gone away from them. What truth Omar uncovers when he meets Samir and Maya both now a married couple with a small kid Danielle and what it all leads to forms the rest of the film.

New York can easily be considered the best film to come out of the Yash Raj stable after Chak De India. Shot entirely in the US, the film not only is on par with the best of the Hollywood films made in this genre but is a completely different experience which the Bollywood audience is not used to. You are completely hooked from the first scene of the film when Neil is arrested by FBI and the interrogation that follows by Irrfan of Neil’s. The first half is extremely well narrated and keeps you constantly guessing as to what will happen next. The interval point is a shocker and you look forward to an exciting second half. But then the pace of the second half somehow doesn’t match up that of the first half and there are some predictable things in store. But nonetheless it is packed with some really great moments. The whole frisking episode of Katrina Kaif by a cop on the road late at night and the sequences that follow it linger on your mind for long. The climax though a bit word heavy is superbly shot as well. The torture scenes shown immediately post the interval send a shiver down your spine. Pritam’s music is easy on the ears and there are no lip sync songs to hamper the proceedings.

New York scores high in the acting department with each single actor delivering his/her best. John Abraham often termed as an expressionless actor has delivered his career’s finest performance. Katrina Kaif has finally got the meatiest role of her career and she has taken full advantage of it. She is very good in emotional scenes as well. Neil in a difficult part shines. Irrfan Khan never disappoints and here again he is in great form. His scenes with Neil and also his senior officer have turned out well.

New York takes up a topical theme and perfectly exposes the wily ways of the American FBI to which over hundreds of innocent Muslim people had fallen prey to post 9/11. It is a must watch for many reasons so just don’t miss it.
